Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how DataroxIT ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the WyseReader Android application ("the app"). We keep this policy short and direct. If you have questions, contact us.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

  • Profile: Name, email address, home address, and phone number if you choose to enter them in Settings. This information stays on your device and in your chosen cloud storage provider.
  • Reading data: Books you import, reading progress, bookmarks, annotations, and library organisation (series, collections, reading status).
  • Contact form submissions: Name, email, and message if you submit the form on this website.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage statistics: Opt-in only. If you enable usage statistics in Settings, basic anonymous usage events are collected to help improve the app.
  • Crash reports: If the app crashes, a stack trace may be generated on your device for debugging. No crash data is automatically transmitted.
  • Affiliate tracking: The built-in bookstore browser (Bookshop.org, Kobo, Barnes & Noble) uses affiliate links. Purchases made through these links may generate a commission for DataroxIT. No personally identifiable information is shared with these stores beyond what your browser sends normally.

2. How we use your information

  • To provide and improve the reading experience
  • To sync your library, progress, and annotations across your devices via your chosen cloud provider
  • To respond to contact form submissions
  • To detect and fix crashes

We do not sell your data. We do not use your reading data for advertising.

3. Third-party services

WyseReader integrates with the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy.

Cloud storage and sync

  • Google Drive — used to sync library data. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Microsoft OneDrive — used to sync library data. Governed by Microsoft's Privacy Statement.
  • Dropbox (Pro tier) — used to sync library data. Governed by Dropbox's Privacy Policy.
  • Box (Pro tier) — used to sync library data. Governed by Box's Privacy Policy.

Note export

  • Microsoft OneNote (Advanced and Pro tiers) — used to export annotations. Authentication uses OAuth 2.0. Tokens are stored on your device using AES-256 encryption.

Book discovery

  • Project Gutenberg / Gutendex API — used for free book search. No personal data is sent.
  • Library of Congress API — used for free book search. No personal data is sent.
  • Bookshop.org, Kobo, Barnes & Noble — commercial bookstores accessed via an in-app browser. Subject to each store's own privacy policy and terms.

Network

  • HTTP request logging is disabled in release builds. No requests are logged to external servers by the app itself.

4. Data storage and security

  • All sensitive data (OAuth tokens, profile information, reading progress) is stored using Android's EncryptedSharedPreferences.
  • The app uses scoped storage and does not request the MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
  • No secrets are hardcoded in the app binary.
  • Android Auto Backup is configured to exclude encrypted preference files.

5. Data retention

  • Your reading data remains on your device and in your cloud provider until you delete it.
  • If you downgrade from Advanced or Pro to Basic, your data is retained for a 180-day grace period before any tier-specific data is removed.
  • Basic edition data is never automatically deleted.

6. Children's privacy

WyseReader is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

7. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Because most data is stored locally on your device or in your own cloud account, you can manage it directly. For data held by us (e.g. contact form submissions), contact us to request access or deletion.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
